Understanding Ways To Improve Your Self

3 Signs Your Teen Has Problems With Drugs

by Benjamin Fowler

Teenage years are a time of great excitement, exploration, and experimentation. Your teen is trying hard to figure out who they are and where they stand in the world. However, sometimes all those exciting things turn out to be not all that great. For example, if your child gets into drugs, they can end up in a lot of pain and have to go through a lot of hard times until they are able to get free from the drugs. It's not always obvious that your child is dealing with drugs and they probably aren't going to just come right out and say that they are doing drugs. So how can you tell that they are having problems with drugs?

Secretive Behavior

If your normally open teen has started becoming more secretive and doesn't like to tell you what is going on in their lives or they trying to hide things from you, there's a chance that they may be getting into drugs. One problem you may have with this sign is that children often get more secretive when they become teenagers. So this means that you are going to have to weigh their behavior to figure out what more secretive means for you and your child.

Poor Hygiene

Another sign that your child may have a problem with drugs is if they start having hygiene problems. They don't shower regularly, they stop brushing their teeth, and they don't change their clothes regularly. They may sleep in their clothes and wear them several days back-to-back. If you try to get them to be more hygienic, they may argue with you, do better for a week or two, and then fall right back into the same habits. Again, sometimes teens have issues with their hygiene, but you will know if it's something that is a new behavior or is a problem that you have had to deal with for a long time.

Dropping Grades

If your teen has had good grades and they are starting to fail, that's another sign that they may have problems with taking drugs. If your child is in an altered state on a regular basis, they aren't going to have the attention to pay to their grades, so they will fall.
